National Stockings Day for Breast Cancer Care

Can Can dancers brought traffic to a stop in central London today as they celebrated National Stockings Day.

This year the event aimed to highlight the feel-good factor of stockings.
The event, held to raise money for Breast Cancer Care, saw dancers outside of House of Fraser in Oxford Street.

Isabel Keith, buyer for hosiery and lingerie at House of Fraser, said: “It is a fantastic opportunity for us to add our support to such a great cause and give our customers an enjoyable experience whilst raising money for Breast Cancer Care.”

The Charnos Hosiery National Stockings Day, which has been held annually since 2007, this year highlighted the feel-good factor of wearing stockings.

Breast Cancer Care’s director of fundraising and marketing, Judy Beard, said: “One in eight women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime and many women feel that they lose their femininity during treatment.

Can Can dancers braved the cold weather to promote the cause.

“Charnos National Stockings Day is a great excuse to get together with your friends, have fun and treat yourself by wearing beautiful stockings, while helping to raising awareness about breast cancer.

“Breast Cancer Care wants to be there for anyone affected by breast cancer and we couldn’t do this without the support from companies such as Charnos and their customers, so thank you.”

A survey by Charnos reveals that 12 per cent of women have never worn stockings, down from 25 per cent in 2007, when the first National Stockings Day was held.

The survey of 600 women also found that 65 per cent of those questioned said stockings made them feel sexy, and 69 per cent of women prefer classic stockings to holdups.
Charnos has also released the results of a survey about stockings.

And the survey also found that sales of stockings have risen by 34 per cent in the past two years, with sales of hold ups rising by 25 per cent.
