While I'm not personally a synesthete, and I don't know anyone who is, I find myself very interested in the condition. At first, it does really seem impossible that two senses could cross paths. However, you're right - the more you think about it, the more it makes - well - sense. Also, great point about smell being the best trigger of memory. Just the other day I rolled down my window, and I swear I smelled the grocery store in the town that I grew up in. It was the weirdest thing. Suddenly I was a young kid again riding on the back of the buggy. Anyways, sorry for the long winded reply.
